Katsushin is this cozy, homey restaurant tucked away in the Jungdong area of Haeundae, Busan. They specialize in tonkatsu, which is Japanese-style pork schnitzel. What sets them apart is the quality of their meat—always thick, juicy, and cooked to perfection. They offer different cuts to suit your preference for more or less fat, and they even post the protein content for each cut because the owner is really into fitness.

I found out about Katsushin in a pretty cool way. While working out at the gym, I met the owner. She invited me to her restaurant, saying, "Hey, if you're hungry, come by and I'll give you some food." So, I did, and I was blown away by the taste and quality. That first visit turned into many more, and each experience has been fantastic.

When you walk in, you'll feel right at home. The place has a warm, welcoming vibe with free coffee and seats for babies and young kids, making it a great spot for families. The owners, a super friendly couple, make sure every guest feels valued. The wife, who I know from the gym, and her husband run the place with such dedication and care. Their service is always top-notch—super friendly, super kind, and they always make sure you have a great meal.

The menu mainly focuses on tonkatsu, but you’ve got to try the cheese balls. They remind me of cassoulet from the Netherlands, but even better. Unlike many Korean places that make cheese balls with sugar, Katsushin offers a savory, cheesy snack that you can dip into various sauces.

Even though everything is made fresh, the food comes out promptly. The service is quick, and every dish is well-prepared. The highlight, of course, is the tonkatsu, with its thick, juicy cutlets that are full of flavor. I've been to Katsushin almost ten times, and I usually go for one of the more expensive, fattier cuts because I love the richness. I always plan my day to make sure I can afford the extra calories when I visit.

If it's your first time at the restaurant, or if you're not familiar with the different types of tonkatsu, I recommend ordering the modum katsu. "Modum" means everything, so they give you pieces of all the various kinds of tonkatsu. It's a great way to try them all without having to pick just one.

Some of the condiments and extras that come with your tonkatsu are really special. One of my favorites is the sea salt—you can dip your tonkatsu in it, and it enhances the meat's real flavor. Another favorite of mine is wasabi—not everyone likes it, but I do. They also provide parmesan cheese on the side, which goes exceptionally well with the fatty pork.

I've brought several friends and my young son to Katsushin, and everyone always has great things to say about the place. The only downside is that we all leave super full, unable to go for a second round or have more drinks—but that's just a sign of how satisfying the meal is.

Katsushin is also involved in the community in the Osan-maul area, which translates to Osan town. This older neighborhood in Haeundae is seeing a revival with new restaurants popping up, including a new burger place and even a Thai restaurant.
